2010 Perspective Users' Conference—Recap

This year’s Users’ Conference was an exciting opportunity for PPM! We got to showcase our new module, Perspective Workflow, share insights and best practices related to Incident and Investigation Management, and learn from our clients through their feedback and comments. Over the two days, we focused on sharing new information and ideas related to Perspective, while providing clients with the opportunity to network and learn some new skills in our hands-on training labs.

Our general sessions were all about finding ways to enhance communication and build strategies to better use the information you are tracking in Perspective. The two sessions that stuck out the most in our attendees’ minds were ‘Automate Perspective’ and ‘Our Perspective Roadmap’. ‘Automate Perspective’ introduced attendees to our new Workflow module which allows users to add custom alerting, workflow and business activity monitoring, whether it’s a trigger for a specific event or a regularly scheduled report. Building on this, ‘Our Perspective Roadmap’ provided clients with a glimpse at where our company is going over the next year—from enhancements to Perspective to an expansive update for DispatchLog.
Attendees were torn as to which session rated the best!
The conference included a number of successful breakout sessions, but we received overwhelmingly positive feedback on three sessions in particular.
Our two sessions on Investigation Management—‘Investigation Management Practices’ presented by Geoff Frisby and ‘Incident vs. Investigation vs. Case’ presented by our Co-CEO, Brian McIlravey—tied in perfectly with our ‘Using Case Management’ hands-on training lab to provide users with a great all around understanding of best practices for using Investigation Management in Perspective. One of our favorite comments from the Users’ Conference survey is from an attendee in Geoff’s class who said that his favorite session was ‘Investigation Management Practices’ because of Geoff’s ‘mad facilitation skills’.

The other session that received rave reviews was our ‘Partner Showcase’ where we introduced the partners that we have been working with over the past year. QlikTech (whose technology powers Focal Point) provided us with a great overall introduction to their Business Intelligence software, QlikView. And, this year, we had two new partners join us: IDV Solutions and Infoglide. IDV Solutions introduced our attendees to Visual Fusion, software that provides a visual mashup of information allowing any group to see multiple data sources both geospatially and through time. Our second new partner, Infoglide, provided us with a great overview of their Identity Resolution Engine which helps expose risk and fraudulent interactions by linking non-obvious relationships that exist across disparate data sources.
The Conference's keynote address on the future of security, delivered by Brad Siddell, was an informative session on the Case Management Revolution. The security industry is evolving—as is case management overall—with the influence of technology. Brad provided great insight on how to work with technology and focus your Case Management using new technology.

And, lastly, the Conference's hands-on training labs gave attendees the opportunity to focus on specific parts of Perspective and its modules while, at the same time, complementing our general and breakout sessions and our actionable intelligence theme. This year, we introduced a new course on Focal Point, and we were standing room only for that particular hands-on lab. As one attendee put it, “Focal Point was my favorite session because it showed how the application does more than connect data; it addresses data mining and the utilization of the information collected!” The other class that our clients really seemed to enjoy was ‘Analysis Expert Charting with the Wizard & Excel’ which provided attendees with an advanced introduction to using Analysis Expert charts and exporting data to Excel where Pivot Tables can be used to get more from their data collection.
