5 Things You Need to Have for Information Security in a SaaS Environment

Futurist, Alvin Toffler, wrote in his 1970 publication Future Shock, “Our technological powers increase, but the side effects and potential hazards also escalate.” Any change in what or how we use technology can present a number of issues, and Cloud Computing is not exempt to this.

First off, for those who do not know what the ‘Cloud’ is, here is a definition:

Cloud computing is the delivery of computing as a service rather than a product, whereby shared resources, software, and information are provided to computers and other devices as a utility (like the electricity grid) over a network (typically the Internet).1

Cloud Computing and SaaS (Software as a Service) are terms often used together to describe the same thing. ‘Cloud’ typically refers to computing environments for running applications, managing, storing and analyzing data. The term ‘SaaS’, or ‘Software as a Service’, refers to a specific distribution and implementation model for applications running in the Cloud.

Check Out the New Brivo/PPM Cloud-to-Cloud Integration at ISC West Brivo Booth #6086 In recent months, PPM has announced a number of new partnerships. One of these partnership announcements highlighted a new integration between PPM’s Perspective and Brivo’s ACS WebService.

The integration between these two SaaS-based solutions means that select access control events can now be passed to an incident reporting system for documentation, analysis, and follow-up.

This integration is the first of its kind and we are very excited to demonstrate the value it will bring to organizations looking to connect their systems.

If you are heading to ISC West in Las Vegas from Apr 6th to the 8th, and you would like to see this integration in action, be sure to pop by the Brivo booth (#6086). Frank Kennedy, PPM’s Director of Sales, and Kevin Moore, one of PPM’s Senior Account Managers, will be present at the booth to help showcase our Perspective SaaS solution and the ACS WebService integration.

Commissionaires Extend Perspective Incident Reporting Software into Mobile Patrols

Source: Commissionaires

A recent press release issued by the Commissionaires BC illustrates how a committed joint partnership can lead to successful results in meeting a client’s need.

A few months ago, Darrel O’Shaughnessy and his team from the Commissionaires BC, approached PPM with the idea of making Perspective SaaS mobile for their patrols. The Commissionaires BC, who look after various aspects of the City of Kelowna’s security including the airport, had been using Perspective for tracking incidents and liked its power but wanted to extend it beyond the ‘desk’ and put that power in the hands of their officers.

PPM's busy booth at ASIS 2010

As much as we go into the ASIS Annual Seminar & Exhibits ready to present our latest innovations, the show also gives us the opportunity to find out what needs to come next. What’s everyone asking about? What’s the buzz on the floor? Throughout the three day event, we spent a lot of time talking about integration and interoperability. We collaborated with many of our partners who were at the show—including Microsoft Global Security and Brivo Systems—and we engaged in a number of discussions around cloud-based computing and our SaaS option. With a number of exciting offers to promote and some significant advancements to our product line (both at the show and in development), we had an amazing week in Dallas, and we came home with invaluable feedback that will help us prioritize our development projects to ensure that we continue to address your top Incident Reporting and Investigation Management concerns.
