Another new integration from PPM!

With Perspective Integration Services, we are continuously entering new paths for integration, and we have recently succeeded in an integration with one of the fastest growing companies in the world and one of the fastest growing companies in the security industry—Canada-based Avigilon and the fifth release of their award-winning Avigilon Control Center (ACC) software. It’s really cool stuff!

Perspective Integration Services has the unique ability to listen and subscribe to events, alarms and triggers. ACC has the ability to generate the unique alarms we can listen for and, in some cases, they are tied to other alarm systems such as access control, life-safety or system-based alarms.

So, how does this work and what makes it so unique?

Welcome to the team, Brad!Years ago, I attended a seminar in Waterloo ON, in place of my boss. As a just-promoted supervisor, I was equal parts nervous, excited and filled with dread. That last bit came with the idea of being stuck in a room with 30 or so other professionals (me in my newly pressed supervisory togs), hearing a pitch on a product I knew nothing about. That product was IRIMS, PPM 2000’s legacy incident reporting software.

The seminar was interesting, and to my surprise I actually enjoyed the subject matter. While reporting has always been something I paid careful attention to—and even taught—it had somehow escaped my notice that there might be more out there than just the system I was using at the time. I took a glowing report back to our management team. Very shortly thereafter, we had ourselves an IRIMS system.

The next few years were a blur. We were trained in IRIMS. We set it up. We marched it out to the rank and file, and made a pitch to the next level up the corporate ladder for the Gold standard. With Administrative capabilities, the world (as seen by IRIMS) was my oyster, and I could create, merge and delete at will. DispatchLog, PPM’s computer-aided dispatching software, presented another series of challenges and discoveries. How it changed our business practices! Still, I had yet to conceive that this was work I could actually do…

Integration InnovationSince we started developing Perspective in 2005, integration has always been a key part of the solution and strategy for PPM. We identified convergence not just as a trend but more a new way of thinking about business line applications. We first looked at integration as being a one-way process for incident reporting. As incidents occurred and were detected we wanted an easy way for that information to be pushed to Perspective. This would ensure the process of follow up, recording and investigating of an incident could occur regardless of where and when the incident was first detected, recorded, or reported. This level of integration led us to the Perspective Gateway and e-Reporting where any incident could be submitted via e-Reporting or the import API and subsequently reviewed via the Perspective Gateway, then accepted or rejected into the system.

As our clients expanded their use of Perspective and embraced integration between systems, we introduced Integration Services for full two-way integration of Perspective data. This allowed other systems to search data within Perspective, so additional information could be added to existing incidents as it was discovered throughout an investigation. Two-way integration has led to a huge number of possibilities, including integration of person data from other systems, and easily working with systems where data includes photos, videos and other attachments.

The Countdown is On!

by Lenora Thomas on February 16, 2012

It’s less than a month away… our 2012 Perspective Users’ Conference is coming up on March 6th & 7th, 2012 at the TradeWinds Island Grand Beach Resort in St. Pete Beach, Florida. Anticipation is building throughout PPM as we reach the final stages of planning and immerse ourselves in the last minute details. We’re doing everything from evaluating presentations, to choosing meals, to coordinating fun surprises for all of the attendees. It’s going to be a great couple of days in sunny Florida!

We can’t help but be excited about everything this year’s Conference has to offer including introductory sessions for new clients and hands-on access to Perspective’s newest features and functionality (ready to test drive Perspective Mobile?).

We showcased it at ASIS, started shipping a few weeks ago and issued the press release last week… Perspective 3.0 is now installed, in production and being used by corporate security departments around the world.

A Milestone Moment

Perspective 3.0 represents a significant milestone for PPM. It’s the culmination of a 2-year initiative that saw Perspective evolve from an Incident Reporting software system to an end-to-end Incident Management solution. The difference between the two might seem subtle, but, from my Co-CEO’s standpoint as a security professional, it was huge. More specifically, every time I tried to use the phrase ‘Incident Management’ in our marketing materials, Brian would come back at me with… we’re not really Incident Management, we’re just the back-end of it. Until now…
