Getting the Most from Your Classification Lists What a great week we just had in St. Pete Beach, Florida at our annual Perspective Users’ Conference!

This year’s conference was our first sell out since Perspective was released, there were many first time attendees (including one literally from the other side of the world—Australia) and it included one of the best sessions I’ve ever seen, as a presenter or attendee. The session I’m referring to is a client panel discussion where we had Delta Air Lines, Raytheon, Monash University and Progress Energy talk about how they use Perspective and the data they get from the program.

Workflow scenarios for Incident Reporting SoftwareWhat can Perspective’s Workflow module be used for? That is a very common question with a potentially very complex answer. But, to keep it simple, I’m going to break my response into two areas. The first being what Workflow is used for by 90% of our clients, and the second being some of the ‘out-of-the-box’ initiatives Workflow has been set up to accomplish.

First, you need to understand what Workflow actually does. Workflow has two simple tasks to complete:

  1. Find me when data exists, or when a situation within my data exists, without having to go into Perspective and look for it myself; and
  2. When that data or situation is found, do something with it.

So, what do I mean by ‘when data exists’ or ‘when a situation within my data exists’? Let me explain. When I’m consulting with my Workflow clients, I get them to start thinking about three things they’d like to see Workflow do for them. Those three things are:

Just over a month ago, on June 15-16th, PPM held a Perspective Hands-On Regional Training Session (RTS) in Toronto, Ontario. At the end of the two-day session, attendees were asked to complete an online evaluation form, providing feedback on both the session and the instructor.

Looking at our evaluation forms in general, I regularly get asked:

“Does anyone ever read these?”

“Does it really matter what we say here?”

“Why does my opinion count?”

I can enthusiastically state that we care about your opinion and that, yes, each and every evaluation gets read by a minimum of three individuals at PPM, including one of our Co-CEOs.

I recently had the privilege of attending IAHSS’s 43rd Annual General Meeting in Toronto, Ontario on May 22-25, 2011. As PPM’s Director of Implementation Services, I attend many security industry trade shows, and I am always excited to interact with current and prospective clients. I see people that I’ve worked with in previous Perspective deployments together with people that I’m actively working with on current projects. It’s always nice to hear how their implementation and use of Perspective is going, especially if I’m not their active project manager.

But, with this show in particular, I was pleased to have the opportunity, not only to connect with PPM clients, but also to reminisce with colleagues that I used to work with in my previous career.

Prior to PPM, I worked in healthcare security in Edmonton, Alberta for 15 years. During that time, I was the administrator for the IRIMS program (PPM 2000’s legacy product). Having had this role in healthcare security has definitely been beneficial to me and one of my team’s other consultants, Clint St. Jean. Together, Clint and I have a combined 32 years of healthcare security experience. What this has meant to our numerous healthcare clients that have purchased Perspective is that we’re able to understand how maintaining data in the healthcare environment can be challenging to say the least.
