The Countdown is On!

by Lenora Thomas on February 16, 2012

It’s less than a month away… our 2012 Perspective Users’ Conference is coming up on March 6th & 7th, 2012 at the TradeWinds Island Grand Beach Resort in St. Pete Beach, Florida. Anticipation is building throughout PPM as we reach the final stages of planning and immerse ourselves in the last minute details. We’re doing everything from evaluating presentations, to choosing meals, to coordinating fun surprises for all of the attendees. It’s going to be a great couple of days in sunny Florida!

We can’t help but be excited about everything this year’s Conference has to offer including introductory sessions for new clients and hands-on access to Perspective’s newest features and functionality (ready to test drive Perspective Mobile?).

PPM 2000 International clients and contactsPPM has always sold internationally… while the majority of our business is, like us, centered in North America, our Incident Management solutions have been used everywhere—from Tunisia, to Singapore, to South Africa. Something that has changed in recent years, though, is the use of our product by global organizations who centralize management of the system but have users in multiple countries, often across divisions and subsidiaries.

It’s an exciting evolution for PPM as we expand our software to support multiple languages and set up systems that are used, literally, around the world.

Workflow scenarios for Incident Reporting SoftwareWhat can Perspective’s Workflow module be used for? That is a very common question with a potentially very complex answer. But, to keep it simple, I’m going to break my response into two areas. The first being what Workflow is used for by 90% of our clients, and the second being some of the ‘out-of-the-box’ initiatives Workflow has been set up to accomplish.

First, you need to understand what Workflow actually does. Workflow has two simple tasks to complete:

  1. Find me when data exists, or when a situation within my data exists, without having to go into Perspective and look for it myself; and
  2. When that data or situation is found, do something with it.

So, what do I mean by ‘when data exists’ or ‘when a situation within my data exists’? Let me explain. When I’m consulting with my Workflow clients, I get them to start thinking about three things they’d like to see Workflow do for them. Those three things are:

Cloud from TechSec

by Brian McIlravey, CPP on February 7, 2012

I am at TechSec this week in sunny Delray Beach, Florida (actually, it’s pouring rain). The sessions here have been diverse, with a range of topics and great content.

I was invited to speak on a panel as part of, “Is your cloud provider secure?” Joining me was Chris Peckham (SVP & CTO Kratos), Morgan Hertal (VP & GM MACE CS) and Yong-Gon Chon (VP & CTO SecureInfo Corp)… all experts in the cloud services field.

My role was to address the group from the aspect of a vendor supplying a cloud service. What questions should you ask? How do you know the data is secure? Why would I use the cloud, etc.? There are a lot of myths and misconceptions about the cloud. What was eye-catching was the interest of running services in the cloud (services also being described as a product). PPM has been providing Perspective as a secure cloud base option for years. Although we were not able to use company and product names during the session, I was able to describe the benefits of using Perspective in the cloud… everything from improved customer satisfaction simply because updates are done quickly and easily, to the removal of IT barriers, to payment options which are more easily accessible than high output capital costs, to the security of the data. These points were substantiated by the rest of the panel in how they approach the cloud.

So why are we so afraid of the cloud? [click to continue…]

the importance of mobile incident data capture abilitiesYesterday I hosted the PPM webinar, ‘Empowering Officers and Investigators with Real-Time Incident Management—Introducing Mobility Options for In-the-Field Data Capture & Retrieval.’ Back when we started working on our mobile applications and had moved into the test and release phase, I thought “wow, this is really cool and easy to use,” but it wasn’t until I started putting the presentation together for this webinar that I realized just how important this function is to security and investigative personnel.

To start, I needed to come up with some basics for the webinar such as “what’s the benefit?” The answer to that question easily became intelligence and efficiency.
