History

PPM 2000 was founded in 1988 by a team of security professionals in search of an easier way to manage incidents and investigations. Our solutions have evolved over the years, but our goal remains the same—the delivery of enterprise-level Incident, Investigation and Case Management software to help organizations better manage their security, risk management and compliance objectives.

PPM 2000’s Founder and Past President & CEO

Denis O'Sullivan, CPP, founded PPM 2000 in 1988. Denis’ experience in the security field exposed him to the manual techniques and processes (and filing cabinets!) involved in Incident Reporting and Investigation Management. He knew there must be a better way. So, in search of an automated solution for tracking, analyzing and reporting security data, Denis established PPM 2000, bringing together a core group of security, software and business professionals. With his clear vision and desire to improve the way security incidents are reported, Denis shaped the company while, at the same time, introducing a new approach for Incident, Investigation and Case Management.

Prior to establishing PPM, Denis spent over 20 years in private security and law enforcement. He held senior corporate security positions throughout the 1980s, prior to which he was a detective with the Irish police force where he specialized in counter terrorism. Denis and his family immigrated to Canada in 1974 and, after initial service in the Alberta Highway Patrol, he took a position as Corporate Security Advisor to the City of Edmonton, a position he held until 1988 when he committed, full-time, to PPM.

Denis is Board Certified in Security Management, the security industry's premier designation. He has written security curriculums for the University of Alberta and for the community colleges of Grant MacEwan and Mount Royal College. Denis’ security writings have been published in newspapers and security journals, and he has been a contributing author for academic books and for the world’s only security encyclopaedia. Denis founded the University of Alberta’s Security Management Certificate Program, created its original curriculum and instructed two of the courses for five years.

Denis has been an active participant in the development of the corporate security industry worldwide through his extensive involvement with ASIS International where he has held numerous positions including Vice President of the Board of Directors. Denis also served for six years as a member of the Professional Certification Board, two years as a trustee of the ASIS Foundation and as a member of both the ASIS Council of Business Practices and the Emergency Preparedness Standing Committee.

Denis held the position of President & CEO of PPM 2000 until 2006. He continues to be actively involved in the company as its largest shareholder and as a member of the Board of Directors.

PPM’s Legacy Product

Throughout our 20+ years developing software for the security industry, PPM 2000 has created many products to improve Incident Reporting and Investigation Management. Most notably was IRIMS (Incident Reporting and Investigation Management Software). IRIMS led the way for PPM 2000 to become a household name in the security industry. It revolutionalized the way that incidents could be reported on and analyzed. But, with advances in technology over the years, the IRIMS code became dated and limiting. Coupled with PPM’s promise to stay ahead of the curve and provide leading-edge software developed using the most up-to-date technology and best practices, IRIMS could no longer be supported, and a new successor had to be named. This led the way for PPM to develop a new standard for Incident, Investigation and Case Management: Perspective by PPM 2000.
